the episcopal city
Located in the southwest Située dans le sud-ouest de la France of France, in the Tarn, Albi is a city dans le département du Tarn, Albi est une ville with a powerful charm and a thousand-year-old history. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010, Albi seduces with its exceptional heritage, its cultural richness and its gentle landscapes.
Called « Red City » due to its constructions with brick ocher, typic from the region, Albi has a strong identity, both medieval, gothic and southern. The city has developed since the Antiquity, but it’s during the Middle Ages that she grows, particularly thanks to the business and its its central religious role.
During the XIIIe century, Albi is in the hearth of the the albigensian crusade, a major conflict against the
Cathars, considered as heretics by the Church. Next to these events, the city becomes a strong eclastic seat whose traces are still visible today in its emblematic monuments.
